Our History

Dentroid® was the brainchild of Dr Omar Zuaiter and Alaa Habeb who researched and patented the concept during 2015/2016. In 2017, the company was incorporated as Emudent Technologies, later known as Dentroid.

In 2017, Dentroid won very competitive a pre-seed funding from Canberra Innovation Network (Griffin Trust). Professor Timothy (Tim) Hirst was the company’s first mentor and brilliantly helped it navigate the incubation to be investor ready. Michael (Mike) Gregg was the first investor and ardent supporter further helping the company to spread its wings and take off.  Dr David Penn was the first dentist to join Dentroid shareholders and serve as its inaugural chairman. He was instrumental in honing the concept and informing early research, development and commercialisation endeavours.

Dentroid was a finalist in the prestigious Talent Unleashed 2017 judged by Apple Inc cofounder Steve Wozniak and Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson. It was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Australian Technologies Competition. Later in that year it received the ICON grant from the government of the Australian Capital Territory. In 2020 it received a grant from the Advanced Manufacturing   Growth Centre and then from the Innovative Manufacturing CRC, both backed by the Australian Federal Government.

Since then, Dentroid has assembled a world class team of laser experts, physicists, engineers, dental clinicians, academics and visionaries who continue to evolve the concept into a commercial reality that will change the face of dentistry as we know it.
